National Apprenticeship Week 2020: Meet another Management Apprentice

6 February 2020

This week it’s National Apprenticeship Week, a chance for training providers like Eliesha to introduce the apprenticeship training that they provide and detail the fantastic opportunity that it represents, for employers and employees alike.

As the theme of National Apprenticeship Week 2020 is “Look Beyond”, Eliesha is calling on employers to look beyond the traditional development routes for existing managers and introduce apprenticeships into the mix.

The best way for us to show off the diverse and far-reaching benefits that our Management Apprenticeship programmes have is to introduce you to our apprentices! Yesterday, we spoke to Caroline, and today we'd like to share an interview with Andy – who is currently learning on an Eliesha ‘open’ programme in the North East:

Hi Andy! Firstly, where do you work and how long have you been there for?
I work at Northumbrian Water and have been here for 16 years.

And what’s your job title?
I'm a Maintenance Technician.

What apprenticeship are you doing?
I'm doing a Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor apprenticeship with an ILM Level 3 Diploma for Managers alongside.

What skill or area of your work do you think has benefited from your apprenticeship the most?
Communications, especially meetings and team briefs.

What’s been your favourite part of the programme?
The face-to-face workshops at Eliesha. Helpfulness, friendliness and full support from everyone involved!

What changes have you noticed in your management style?
I'm more confident making formulated decisions, using the tools learned from the course e.g. Learning Styles, and Emotional Quotient Questionnaires used during my coaching with work colleagues.

What advice would you pass on to other management apprentices?
It's hard work but so rewarding. It changes your views at work and also throughout life in general.

And finally, what has surprised you most about your apprenticeship?
That I look forward to the workshops and the challenges they give me! I feel it has given me the knowledge and tools to take on any new role as a manager.

To be able to help and take responsibility for people, by showing respect, safeguarding their wellbeing and health, especially during the changes we are going through at Northumbrian Water.

Eliesha is a main provider on RoATP and is already helping a diverse range of organisations - of all sizes - to deliver behaviour, skills and knowledge change in their management capacity.

Our programmes are highly successful, with 100% of completions achieving their qualification and 89% of completions achieving merit or distinction.
